Famous Diamonds
Gemstones, especially diamonds, have been a major part of our history. Throughout the world, famous people and royalties have been associated with different gems, here we have a list of the most wellknown diamonds:
- Excelsior Diamonds - Cut from a rough that originally weighed around 995 carats. 11 different stones were cut from the rough, the largest being 69.7 carats, and the smallers one is 9.8 carats. With the exception of Excelsior IV, VI, VII, which are marquise shaped, all of the other stones are of a pear shape. The Excelsior family is famous for their lovely white-blue color and fine quality.
- Golden Jubilee - Largest faceted diamond in the world. This beautiful golden fire rose cushion cut weighs around 545.7 carats, and is the largest known diamond at a D-Flawless grading. It was cut by famous diamond cutter Gabi Tolkowsky.
- Heart of Eternity - A lovely 27 carat blue diamond in the shape of a heart. It's rare, intense blue made it the star of the DeBeers Millennium Diamond show.
- Hope Diamond - One of the most infamous diamonds in history. The Hope diamond is a pale blue color weighing at 45.5 carats. It is set in platinum and surrounded by 16 smaller white diamonds. It's been believed that those in possession of the Hope diamond will end up either losing all of his wealth or die prematurely, as with all of its previous owners.
- Pumpkin - A fancy orange diamond weighing 5.54 carats. It was cut by William Goldberg and then bought by Harry Winston for $1.3 million. Halle Berry wore the diamond on a ring designed by Ronald Winston and Phillip Bloch to the 2002 Academy Awards. The ring is now valued at $3 million, and is the largest known fancy vivid orange diamond.
- Star of Africa - It is the largest diamond cut from the orignal Cullinan, weighing at 530.2 carats. It has 74 facets and is now sitting among the British Crown Jewels.
