Loose Diamonds
Diamonds have long been, and probably always will be, a girl's best friend. They are the most prized gem of all gemstones, the leader of the pack, the ultimate symbol of love, power, wealth, and success. You can find other gemstones, amethyst rings, garnet rings, necklaces, and jewelry online for discount prices too!
When it comes to loose diamonds, there are four factors that you must keep in mind: color, carat, clarity, and cut - commonly know as the Four C's.
- Color - represents the color grading of a diamond. In the case of colorless diamonds, the whiter it is, the better. In fancy colored diamonds, the grading system is much less rigid and often dependant on visual appeal.
- Carat - the measure of the weight of a loose diamond. A one carat diamond is usually accepted as a decent size for proposal and engagement purposes. Diamonds smaller than 1/4 of a carat are usually measured in points. 1 carat = 100 points.
- Clarity - clarity measures the amount of inclusions present inside a loose diamond stone. More inclusions in the gem can interfere with light, and greatly reduce the brilliance of a diamond.
- Cut - cut does not refer to the type of cut, it measures the quality of the cut. A poorly cut diamond can cause it to loose light and appear too dull or too dark.
When in the market to shop for diamonds, always remember to do enough research so you know what you are getting into. A diamond is an investment, and should be treated as such.
